چکیده

Various authors (1, 2, 3, 9) have reported that tritiated water as applied to plant roots does not fully exchange with water of various aerial organs, particularly leaves, even after long period of observation. This incomplete equality between tritium concentration in tissue water and external sources has been attributed to an inaccessible component of tissue water which does not exchange (2). In this report this hypothesis is tested experimentally. Data reported here were obtained by use of THO for appraising the pattern of movement and distribution of tritium in sunflower and tobacco. Influx and efflux of tritium were measured in stems and leaves of intact plants and transpired vapor in both open and closed systems.

Expression Pattern of pmt, erf1 and jap1 Genes in Nicotiana benthamiana and Atropa belladonna Plants under UV Radiation, Wounding and Methyl Jasmonate Treatments

The Solanaceae plants produce a variety of interesting biologically active products including the steroid alkaloids solanidine, nicotine and tropane alkaloids. Putrescine N-methyltransferase (PMT) is an enzyme that catalyses s-adenosylmethionine-dependent methylation of putrescine in one of the primary steps of nicotine and tropane alkaloids biosynthesis pathway. Two tobacco members of the AP2/...

A Comparative Study on the Phytoextraction of Five Common Plants against Chromium Toxicity

Phytoextraction is a remediation technology that uses plants to remove heavy metals from soil. The success of a phytoextraction process depends on adequate plant yield (aerial parts) and high metal concentrations in plant shoots. A paper towel experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of plants sunflower (Helianthus annuus), maize (Zea maize), pearl millet ( Sorghum bicolour), green g...

Impacts of T-Phylloplanin gene knockdown and of Helianthus and Datura phylloplanins on Peronospora tabacina spore germination and disease potential.

T-phylloplanin proteins secreted to aerial surfaces of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) by short procumbent trichomes inhibit spore germination and blue mold disease caused by the oomycete pathogen Peronospora tabacina. Many other plants were found to contain water-washed leaf surface proteins (phylloplanins), but the functions and properties of these are not known. Here we extend earlier evidence f...

Bound Putrescine, a Distinctive Player under Salt Stress in the Natrophilic Sugar Beet in Contrast to Glycophyte Tobacco

The influence of salinity on the different polyamine fractions (free, conjugated, and bound) was compared in a natrophilic halophyte (Beta vulgaris L. cv. IC) and a salt sensitive glycophyte (Nicotiana rustica L. cv. Basmas). Low-level salinity (25 mM NaCl) and high salinity (150 and 50 mM NaCl for sugar beet and tobacco, respectively) were supplied in hydroponics. Under low salinity shoot dry ...

Artefactual Origins of Cyclic AMP in Higher Plant Tissues.

A highly sensitive radioimmunoassay has been used to determine the levels of adenosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (cAMP) in five higher plants (Lactuca sativa, Helianthus annuus, Oryza sativa, Pinus pinaster, Nicotiana tabacum). Particular attention was paid to the three main sources of errors in the characterization of cAMP in plants: presence of interfering substances in plant tissues; possib...
